Traditional American Apple Pie
Last Updated on
The American apple pie, translated as Apple Pie, has been one of the symbols of the “real” America since the 1930s – there’s even a town named after it in the state of New Mexico.
Ingredients:
Procedure:
1. In a larger bowl, mix together the flour and salt, stir in the softened butter a little at a time (save 2 tablespoons for later)
2. Add the cold water to the dough a teaspoon at a time, form two balls (one larger and one smaller to cover), then wrap them in a plastic bag or food foil and leave them in the fridge for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight
3. Knead the larger dough again and fill the bottom and sides of the mould
4. In a second larger bowl, mix together the sliced apples, sugar, a tablespoon of semi-coarse flour and cinnamon, mix everything thoroughly, then place the filling on top of the dough in the mould
5. Put the remaining butter on top of the pastry, cover the pie with the remaining pastry and seal it perfectly, any excess edges can be removed
6. Finally, poke a few holes in the dough with a skewer to allow the steam from the apples to escape
7. Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 200 °C for about 1 hour, until the dough is golden brown.
