Procedure:
1. Clean the herrings, peel, de-bone, rinse, cover with water and let stand in a cool place for 24 hours
2. Then rinse and marinate in milk for 4 hours
3. Arrange the prepared herrings in layers alternating with onion rings, cucumber rounds, pepper, thyme, bay leaves and a pinch of mace
4. Pour over a mixture of milk, buttermilk whisked with cottage cheese and a little vinegar and let it sit for 3 hours.
Recommendation:
– Side dish: Potatoes cooked in their skins and lettuce.
