A classic Italian tomato sauce recipe with a unique twist – Sambucus! It’s also great on its own as a healthy, hearty soup. This Sambucus tomato sauce recipe is super easy to make and can be made in advance. It’s also dairy-free, gluten-free, and Paleo-friendly.
Ingredients:
-1 28-ounce can of whole peeled tomatoes
-1 cup of chicken broth
-1/2 cup of Sambucus elderberry syrup
-1/4 cup of olive oil
-1 onion, chopped
-3 cloves of garlic, minced
-1 teaspoon of salt
-1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions:
1. Add the tomatoes, chicken broth, elderberry syrup, olive oil, onion, garlic, salt, and black pepper to a large pot or Dutch oven.
2. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 minutes.
3. Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until it’s smooth.
4. Serve over your favorite pasta or Italian dish.
Tips:
-You can make this sauce ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a week. Just reheat it when you’re ready to use it.
-If you don’t have an immersion blender, you can use a regular blender or food processor to blend the sauce. Just be careful not to burn yourself with the hot liquid.
-This sauce is also great as a pizza sauce! Just spread it on your favorite pizza crust and top with your favorite toppings
