Recipe using vegetable glycerin lavender and Knox gelatin for itchy dogs
Last Updated on
Itchy dogs are a nuisance, and finding a remedy that actually works can be even more frustrating. However, this recipe using vegetable glycerin, lavender and Knox gelatin is an effective, natural way to soothe your dog’s itchies.
Vegetable glycerin is a natural humectant, meaning it helps to keep things moist. This makes it perfect for dogs with dry, itchy skin as it helps to add moisture and relief. Lavender is also great for itch relief as it has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Adding a few drops of lavender oil to the mixture will help to further soothe your dog’s skin.
Instructions:
1. Mix together 1/4 cup of vegetable glycerin, 1/4 cup of lavender oil and 1 envelope of Knox gelatin in a bowl.
2. Heat the mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds or until the Knox gelatin has dissolved.
3. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before applying it to your dog’s skin.
4. Rub the mixture into your dog’s skin, focusing on any especially dry or itchy areas.
5. Rinse your dog off with warm water after 10 minutes.
This recipe can be used as often as needed to soothe your dog’s skin. For best results, use it in conjunction with a high quality dog shampoo and conditioner.
Tips:
If your dog has sensitive skin, start with a smaller amount of lavender oil and increase as needed.
This recipe can also be used as a leave-in conditioner – simply rub it into your dog’s coat after bathing and towel drying.
Store any unused mixture in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks
