Recipe for making bread and butter pickles
Last Updated on
Bread and butter pickles are a classic American side dish. They are tangy, sweet, and crunchy, and go great with burgers, sandwiches, or as a snacking pickle. This recipe is easy to follow and makes a delicious batch of pickles.
To make bread and butter pickles, you will need:
5 pounds of pickling cucumbers
2 cups of white vinegar
2 cups of sugar
1 tablespoon of salt
1 teaspoon of celery seed
1 teaspoon of mustard seed
1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
Wash the cucumbers and cut them into 1/4-inch thick slices. In a large bowl or pot, mix together the vinegar, sugar, salt, celery seed, mustard seed, and ground ginger. Add the cucumber slices and stir until evenly coated. Let the mixture sit for at least an hour, stirring occasionally.
Once the pickles have marinated, transfer them to clean jars. Be sure to leave about 1/2-inch of headspace at the top of each jar. Seal the jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months
