Creamy crab recipe with cream cheese
Last Updated on
This light creamy crab cake is made with canned crab meat, but you can use fresh cooked crab if you have some. Or use the convenient imitation crab meat, made with white fish and often a small amount of crab meat. Either way, your seafood will be a stunner!
Creamy cheese and mayo are combined with the crabmeat to make it creamy, deliciously sweet. Carrots and celery are great choices. This is a very easy dip to prepare with just a few simple flavors.
Serve the sauce with Vegetable Recipes, chips, crostini or crackers. It’s great for parties, gatherings, or a day out for the family to enjoy a movie night.
Add a tablespoon or two of chopped fresh parsley for extra color. Cilantro or chopped green onion can also add a nice flavor. If you’re feeling mellow, put all or partially cooked lobster . Check out the tips and variations and reader comments for more add-ins and substitution ideas.
What you’ll need
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened* 1/3 cup mayonnaise 3 tablespoons milk 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder cracked-oregano pepper (or Tabasco sauce or to taste) 1 (6 oz) can crabmeat (dried, cartilage removed, finely chopped)
How to make
In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, milk, salt, garlic powder and cayenne pepper or Tabasco sauce to taste. Mix well. Lightly crumble to make a crispy bake. Cover the crab cake and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled. Serve the creamy crab cake with chips, crackers or raw vegetable sauces. Makes about 2 cups of crab dip.
* Quickly soften 8 ounces of cream cheese, unwrap and place on a plate in the microwave.
Microwave on 100% power for 15 to 20 seconds. Another option is to cut the cold cream cheese into small chunks and beat it at high speed with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
Variations
Add 1 or 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion. Add the vanilla to a drizzle for a cool seasoning. Add a few tablespoons of parsley or fresh chopped chives or onions. Double the amount of crab drippings. Add 1 teaspoon fresh chopped dill or about 1/2 teaspoon dried dill cloves. Sprinkle the paprika over the soup. Replace the crabs with crushed crabs made from pollock or hake. These products usually contain a small amount of crab meat, so don’t use them if you have an allergy to shellfish. Check that the labels are secure. Add some chopped baked shrimps and/or scallops to the seabed for bathing. Or do it with shrimp instead of crab meat. For a particularly special beer, make it with roasted chopped lobster.
